Isn't that automatic? If you break the law you're a criminal. I'm not sure what you meant here.
With 100's of millions of small arms in the US, any prohibition on possession thereof would only be followed by rational law abiding citizens. The idea therefore that criminals would not have them is naive.

The policy could only hope to work where such weapons are already scarce and import is particularly burdensome.

It would take years if not decades but what's the alternative - maintaining the status quo? Arming everyone?

Getting rid of the fear. Let Americans choose if they want to own or not to own. A Basic Constitutional right. Simple as that. Choice is everything, they take away our choice, its only a matter of time until we take their power. End of Story

You should wear some snow shoes if you're going to try to walk up that slippery slope. I don't want you to fall and hurt yourself. The tin on your hat isn't going to protect you when you fall that hard.

If your argument ever contains comparisons to Hitler, the SS, Concentration camps or the Holocaust.

1. Stop.
2. Don't be retarded
3. Realize that ANYTHING you're bitching about on the boards of a 16 year old emulated game cannot possibly measure up to the horror and pure evil that was the Holocaust and the individuals who orchestrated it.

First off, location has absolutely nothing to do with it. People are people.
Secondly, The acts hitler committed are EASILY replicable by any government if they so desire.
Thirdly, It wasnt the individuals. It was the masses. Hitler brainwashed his people into letting it happen. Just like how our government is brainwashing blacks against whites as we speak.

Arming yourself is succumbing to fear.

Un-arming your self is accepting your fate. Which from what ive seen, just means consensual suicide.

I think that is a question we ought to explore as a society. Criminal and mental health background checks are a good practice. Stiffer penalties for all violent crime including involuntary hospitalization for mentally compromised individuals is another topic worth exploring to minimize repeat offenses and avoid major incidents. Socio-economic policy that conditions that are not conducive to violent crime is also worth delving into.

The focus needs to be on violent crime and its causes.
