Default Standard introduction thread with some questions.

I tried to post this earlier but I think the forum ate it - if there was an accident or mistake, please feel free to delete the duplicate.

Hello everyone, wanted to introduce myself: I am a long time EQ vet, having played since launch until a few months after PoP came out. I originally rolled as a necromancer and leveled from 1-50 solo. I didn't actually know you could group (a noob, I know) until around level 48 when I was doing a trade in the EC tunnel, and someone invited me to a group.

Anyway I enjoyed the heck out of the original game and eventually rolled an enchanter and got him a few hundred AAs as well. I ultimately quit when the servers started dying, and played EQ2, WoW, and all the other games that came around, etc.

Here are some of my questions - and I apologize if they are already answered in FAQs and I just didn't see them...

1. Are there epics? I remember epics being in the game around Kunark time and I certainly remember raiding PoFear and Hate to try and get things. I regret never having finished mine, so I might amend that...

2. Is it even possible to obtain epics and or raid? I know that P1999 is a bit top-heavy since it's been around a while and a lot of people are maxed out...do you have to be part of the "text me at 2:00am" to raid group or do casual guilds have any opportunity to raid?

3. Since I played completely solo back when I played original EQ, are there solid leveling/questing/friend groups available? Are there opportunities for me if I want to play a class who relies entirely on grouping? Are there plenty of active guilds? (I should think so with 1600+ players)

I feel pretty confident playing any class - but I am leaning toward Bard or Enchanter (again), though I am a tiny bit hesitant to have to raid just to get my spell drops. And I really disliked doing spell research, too, but that's part of the game I guess... [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

That being said, I was debating bard, shaman, or enchanter - what do you guys think would be most welcomed?

Any feedback is also appreciated.. and thanks for reading.

Looks like your original post did finally show up.

Yes Epic are here.

Raiding is over rated. I played on Live for seven years and the only raid i ever participated in was a pick up raid on Vox organized by a couple of bored GMs one night in PoK. Everyone who took part got a class specific raid drop just for being there.

I see casual guilds advertising in Shouts and OOC, all the time. Homeland Security comes to mind.

Welcome to the server. I am new here too. Only good experiences so far
If your epic is multi questable then if you have the plat you can get an epic.

Hi!

1. Yes, but they do require cooperating with other players. You don't necessarily have to be in a big guild for this. The thing about having a top-heavy server is that there are a LOT of bored level 60s. I've seen several instances where someone has come to the forums or shouted in game for help with big fights and gotten it. It's possible but it'll take a while to do on your own.

2. Yes! Also, we have a very nice guild called Omni on this server that likes doing open raids occasionally. You're subject to their timing (they're Euro-based) and organization skills but they're very good and work magic to make these types of things possible for ordinary/non-guilded players. The last one they did was an open Vox raid, but they've also done Fear and Hate in the past. The raids have so far been spaced a few months apart. It takes them a bit of coordination with other raiding guilds to get a free time slot for an open raid but they always give a lot of warning beforehand in the forums when one is coming up.

3. Yes! Sometimes you have to be persistent about getting into groups, but there's a big influx of new players coming in now. You can try organizing a static group or you can pester people to join you in game for some fun. At the lower levels quests can usually be done solo, but of course everything is more fun with other players.

There are also a lot of active guilds, ranging from super specialized (Nomsanto Industries, Dial A Port, and I think Dirty Gnoll Brewing Co.) to casual (Homeland Security and College of Adventure) to casual/raiding (Omni) to super hardcore raiding (Taken, uh...BDA, I think - I don't pay them much attention). If you're interested in joining, you can check out Guild Discussion and find most guilds' charters in the first post where they state their mission and who they're likely to accept.

As for which class is most welcomed, I'd say don't worry about that and play whatever you want. Everyone always welcomes good players. I will say that bards have kind of a poor reputation on this server because of the ones who swarm-kite entire zones (made infinitely worse when they have bad attitudes about it), but they're definitely a great group class.

Default Thanks :)

Thank you all for taking the time to write back, I truly appreciate it. I am a bit torn on what I want to do as far as playing the game though. My only one regret when I played on live was never getting my epic. I played for so long that by the time I quit, I had a better item in that slot anyway (before they did the epic 2.0s) and I felt like I just passed it by.

That being said, I have debated re-rolling a necro again, because I know the class so well, but I don't particularly want to solo another 60 levels like I did in live. I had a conversation with someone online today that said necros are actually needed in some raids because so few people roll them.

I also thought of Mage, because they are good in groups but also have pets. I think I might be turned off from Bards because there are an abundance - I've always enjoyed being a caster. I'll dabble a bit and make a choice soon.

That being said - I hopped over to the guild recruitment area and it looks like most people won't consider you until 55+

Are there any leveling/social/grouping type guilds available? Just to be clear: Not looking for handouts, just friends to group with so I don't have to be LFG for hours, lol.
