Why does everyone who plays this game have a shitty/weird looking avatar

literally no objects/textures in this game have an appealing or impressive look, is it just me who thinks this?

I almost can't put it into words, everything just looks incredibly cheap or corny. Like a 1990's CGI commercial.

Is it a limitation of the engine or something? Or just a reflection of the type of people who play? Probably the latter.
As far as I understand it, the game is run off of user created content. Everything from avatars to clothing, buildings, land, etc is created by players and able to be sold for in game currency which is bought with and can be converted back to real money, with the devs taking a cut in the exchange. It's a beautiful scam. Release a sandbox game with no content and make the players develop it for you and charge them for the privilege. Does have the side effect of a lot of it looking like shit.

I did a few minutes of reading on that particular issue and some people were saying the creation engine itself is extremely bad, and that's another reason everything looks like shit. Can you not use your own software to develop models/textures? That sounds fucking awful.
