Anyone who has seen the movie Cocaine Cowboys, they talk about bringing blow into Florida in the 1970's, and having cops actually transport the coke in squad cars. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but one of the guys who was overseeing transport into the country mentioned that he was a 20something kid making $50k/week, while the salary for a police officer in Florida at that time was $15k/year. Basically, being a cop was and still is a shit job that doesn't pay well enough. Because the pay sucks, especially given the line of work, where you could be putting your life on the line at any given moment, anyone who is qualified (i.e. intelligent, with a decent moral compass) would rather work somewhere else. So, the qualifications have to be lowered, and you attract a bunch of retarded scum who can't get a better job, and are more than willing to abuse their position of authority to get more than just their trash salary out of it. There's alot more to be said, but I have to go get my cookies out of the oven and go to this Christmas party, so I'll leave that for later.
