I considered getting one to work as a media center remote for my HTPC.

But, I have an iPhone 4. It's just a bigger version of that. Meh.

i use my ps3 as mediacenter to stream movies from an external hard drive to my tv..is there an app to stream that media onto my ipad too?

No...I mean I have a PC hooked up to my TV. With an iPad, I would be able to control playback from that, instead of using a wireless keyboard/mouse, which can be cumbersome.

PS3 sucks as a media center imo. At this point, I strictly use it for games.

Try Air Video. It's quite good. Needs a server side app on a computer to stream from, but that's easy to set up.

I use PS3media server. Is air video better than that? PS3 media server was easy as hell to set up.

Does AirPlay stream directly from PS3 Media Server? If so, you probably don't need Air Video. PS3 is pretty damn nice.

Air Video works over the intertubes as well, though. That's why I like it. Can tether my iPad to my iPhone or use some free wi-fi (like, say, at an airport) and watch whatever.

after 2 days using it ive came to the conclusion to sell it and (maybe) buy an ipod touch.

it has its uses but cumbersome to have it with me all the time
