Boxing back in the day consisted of friends accounts ... shared resources and was mostly about keeping the toons grinding.. on off hours.. and always being able to have a group you trusted available because pug groups leaned to the unreliable side..
Internet connection was actually not such a problem.. as sound caused the most lag and you could literally effect game play and fluidity by..looking at the ground and turning sound to 0%.
If you ran 2 windows on one screeen(i did up to 4 on 1 even on dial up) its wasn't really that bad as long as you used one screen to control and keep track of everyone..combined with key clone...which modifies nothing it simply imitates button pushes in specific programs... and a couple ingame macroes on each toon and you could tank..heal nuke ..even double mele.. and evec using 1-0 and shift.
There was some lag and if i used dial up it was a bit worse and the DC's were brutal..
But it was allowed ..many many times I spoke to Sony staff. them knowing i was controlling 6 toons. The thing about it being allowed meant that... i could drop a toon and invite some guy LFG i wasn't forced to hide what I was doing..
People loved it..so much that sometimes we had to turn people away saying no really its all of us on our own toons right now..
So please don't speak like some expert on old school boxing..
1999-2000 in my eyes is being a teenager living in my parents house with our 3 computers and cable and 2 EQ subs. Boxing was commonplace in my house when 2 people werent playing at the same time. Everyones views of classic is different.
