You should never really need Mend if you are doing it right. Mend is your "Oh crap! I just been jumped by a re-pop!" button. That said, if you are soloing IN the re-spawn area, you are of course, doing it wrong.

Rangers get weaponshield which will elevate them to monk levels IMO. Not to mention upped DMG tables and sick weaps...
