Best pet to solo with at lower levels like 25 is Water. Throw a DS on it, send it in, when the mob is around 80%, cast 2 DDs (most powerful you have). Sit back down and let the pet/DS do the rest. BAM! Full xp. While you are medding, have your pet sit, around the same time you get 100% mana, your pet will already be full health. Much better than taking a risk with a low health fire pet that doesn't really turn in to a dps pet until 29 (top level pet summoned at 29). It's just an opinion. I've had this argument several times.

Personal example for you all:
I'm level 37 right now. I roll with my Earth pet and usually summon over and over until I get the top level pet. - In FV I pull a mob (pirate or drovarg) with a level one fire blast. - My pet already has weapons, DS (15 dmg current) and BO2. - Sick pet. - Mob hits 80%, I cast 2 cinder bolts. - I sit down and watch the pet/DS do the rest of the dmg. (I am around 80% mana) - Sometimes the pet takes 10% dmg, sometimes 30%, either way have it sit as soon as the XP message pops up and when I am FM the pet is Full Health. Fire pet DS is amazing, but the pet takes A LOT more dmg compared to Water or Earth and I find that my pulling is not fluid at all. I am spending more mana sometimes to make sure the pet stays alive (even with 1 mob). ***Fire pet DS is 30dmg, my casted DS is 15*** I have ALL focus items and use them when summoning my pets. Theoretically the level 34 Earth pet has 1380 HP and Fire has 690 (with focus item). When a mob is smashing your pet for 70+ dmg a hit and double attacking you'll notice a difference. And lastly, remember, a Mage is nothing without it's pet. NO CC, NO ROOT.....you better have Jboots or SoW.
