Here's the deal. Rogean (I assume) wants to grow the server and the community. To do that, he needs to provide a service. What service? The business of running an emulated EQ server and all of the services that go along with that. Things like having a working, stable server, maintaining active development, and yes this includes GMs to manage player issues. You can either do a shitty job of GM'ing or do a good job of GM'ing. Doing well at your job furthers Rogean's goal. Doing a shitty job drives people away. You are correct, there is no financial obligation to perform well. Nobody's livelihood is on the line. However, if you care about the server and the community then you should try to be professional in all situations (especially when dealing with disgruntled customers.) These are the basic tenets of customer service, a job I have done for a very long time in both retail and IT environments. | |||
