Did the vet try antibiotics or anything? Or jump straight to a MRI needed?
That sucks. Good luck but if you don't raise the $3,000 than you are better off to put your cat down for 50$ an end the misery (if it is suffering). I got some bob tails that stay outside and lots of other random stuff but nothing inside. Be careful with cats , they can fuck with your mind. Like the cat being so young , yet it still has you gripped onto it , to the point of overspending 3k . Could be this. http://health.usnews.com/health-news...behavior-study or http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/...-crazy/308873/

I don't think you will raise much $. Not because people don't have a heart, but because they don't even know what is wrong with the cat yet. 3k seems like you better get another vet.

I dunno, a quick search shows several companies offering then for 1500 to 2000 plus fees if you want it read immediately or need a second scan done. If he is in southern CA then it wouldn't shock me to find a good markup

This animal hospital would take very good care of your cat for you, I'm sure of it.

As far as vets, is there a local college with a veterinary program? Might be a teaching college, where you can get some of this stuff done cheaper.

Honestly, anything they find on an MRI that didn't show up in bloodwork is going to require an equal if not larger sum to provide any treatment -- if treatment is at all possible.
I've had a lot of animals. I used to own a boarding kennel. I once spent two grand to have a rod inserted in my cat's leg after it suffered a nasty break. I've never had a vet tell me we needed an MRI. Bloodwork and x-rays are enough. If they can't make a diagnosis with that information, it's simply time to make a quality of life determination and proceed with compassion.

yeah when you buy a cat you should have to put 3000 in escrow just to have it.
