It is better to light a single candle than to to curse the darkness.

@Slather You're right, however, there is indeed a LOT of darkness out there.

Go to another vet that doesn't want to charge you 3 grand for some fucking diagnostic tests. Sounds like a scam to me.
This. I have a feeling they are fully capable of finding out what is wrong with your cat, at least a ballpark diagnosis, without fucking MRIs. I bet a lot of vets, probably the majority, don't even have MRI's available.

You should not be responsible for another life form if you can't cover the incidental expenses.

Not trying to be mean, but put the cat down and get another pet in a year or two. Just lost my rottie at 12 years old. I drove every week from NJ to Pa for chemo, he had a tumor(cancer) growing on his heart. I spent over 22k for 6 months of chemo.
It made me feel better, but now I just feel like I was being greedy and wouldnt let go. The last 6 months of his life he was in pain and should have went in peace when god was calling his name.

At the very least a vet should be able to give you some antibiotics or other general cat fixing drugs, and for no more than $50-100 (visit + drugs). It's unlikely your cat has some obscure disease that needs House MD on the case, and worst case, the meds don't work and you get the cat euthanized anyway.

Check another vet that has a soul and will lay things out clearly for you... The vet has to SOME clue of what's going on if he/she's worth a damn. A lot of places just want to push diagnostics for $$ when it's not even useful to do so (e.g. if an MRI will just confirm that the cat is going to die...why spend 3k on it) Also, if you get the MRI done...what if the procedure/meds are another zillion dollars?

Just ask them for a payment plan.

theyll give you a long ass time to pay off whatever bills you've acquired.
