We had to put down our cat a couple years ago. It's never fun, but if the cat is older it makes so much more sense vs. keeping them alive for thousands of dollars, only to have them suffer for the rest of their life and then die maybe a year later despite all the money you spent.

Only she's still young and she was active/healthy a month ago before she suddenly started displaying symptoms.

^^.

I'm in the medical field. There's a point where it's no longer compassionate or right to prolong life.

Motors might be at that point.

What he said.

Not intending to sound callous ... But I'd never drop thousands of dollars on pet diagnostics - especially an old pet. 3000$ for an MRI and ultrasound? And if you can't afford that how do you expect to fix the underlying problem which could also cost thousands?

For the record, my lab who I love dearly is rounding 10 years old and has a bunch of tumors. Labs don't live much past 11-13 on the high end. When it's her time to go - it's her time. I'll probably cry like a baby but I won't be spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to extend her life a few more miserable weeks or months.

Agreed. Is sad, but you can't rationalize it for the monetary endeavor.

Just think about how many new cats you could buy for 3000$ before you spend that on a single cat.

You can get infinite cats just by getting 2 free cats at the pound. quality over quantity

When I moved, my dog rapidly declined in health also. Took him to the vet, did some tests, and came to the conclusion he had stomach ulcers from the stress of moving and new environment. He got some antibiotics and some antiemetics. I have insurance for him, so it cost me next to nothing. Look into it

Yea I regret not getting it for her, always thinking, "I'll have enough to start paying for that next month"

best of luck and im still interested to know the age of the cat it does look older rather than younger

if the vet knows you cant afford things they will work with you, also look into a credit line

the vet is used to people having to decide money vs life, but they dont try to talk you out of expensive stuff... i was able to cut a bill in half by declining optional services that otherwise would be included...

gonna go smoosh my cats face good luck with the million dollar cat... they are worth it
