This is the real reason that grouping is faster leveling than soloing. You're too busy with pulls or (hopefully) interacting with your group mates during down time to even look at your exp bar. If you're soloing, you're probably looking at it after every kill (or like me, timing it so you can see the bar move when you make the kill) to determine if you're killing "good experience" mobs.
