You do know that journalists don't have a free pass to just go anywhere they want right? If they willingly disobey orders to move they are are subject to arrest (or really just detainment). These police need to keep these late night crowds under control because it's late at night when the shootings happen. That's when the gang bangers wake up and want some fun.

I've noticed the true protesters do a great job of policing themselves. I've seen more than one occasion where they've removed a troublemaker. But this is not late night I'm talking about. Most of the genuine protesters are gone by then, and what's left are young people who obviously have nothing to do the next morning.

I watched live one particular guy threaten all the media around him, and when another protester confronted him about it he went after him too. It was live in the VICE stream last night.

It's why captain johnson has asked for protesters to demonstrate during the day, so that the young gang bangers and troublemakers can't hide among them late at night. Last night it seemed to have worked. There were some minor altercations but nothing major.
