While I completely agree with Fawqueue, and am guilty of it myself, my first main was a Shaman, and it's a rough haul. So I rolled a necro to farm plat with.

HOWEVER I realize, and you should as well, that when *everyone* rolls a pet class to solo farm for coin, it leaves the rest of everyone standing around tank-less or cleric-less because the guys that have tanks are on the necs soloing Frenzy for an FBSS.
I'm guilty, maybe double guilty. I have a nec for farming and a shaman for enjoyment. But I didn't roll a shaman to struggle with healing, so I never volunteer to heal. Which means more than once I've stood around with a tank, 3 dps and a shaman trash-pulling blues because I have a tiny heal and a mana 'puddle'.

So in reality it all depends on how much time you have and what you where you want your characters to go. If you want to be in a "Raid Guild" and the "best of the best of the best Sir!" then it will probably be easier for you to achieve that by making a farming class first. Melee classes are not designed to solo. There are several people around I know of as mages or Necros that go 1 to 50 in a couple weeks and hit 50 still wearing partial cloth. The grind like crazy to get to 50 so they can farm for thier preferred main so they can gring him up in high twink style. If you have the time to put towards it this is probably the best and quickest way to go.

If you are a lot more casual and just want to raid tank sometimes for a more casual guild or group of friends and have less time to apply then either way will probably work just fine for you.

If on the other hand you are looking for a truely classic experience the go direct to the tank. Don't twink him out. Get in groups, make friends, have a good time, and enjoy the classic experience. I hear people say all the time they like the classic game because it was more challanging. The creating farming characters is a way to get around part of the difficulty.

In the long run its all do whatever blows your hair back. Your here to relax and enjoy the game so do what ever it is that your find relaxing and enjoyable.
