Why are they so OP? What makes them OP I should say.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always had a problem with mage pets.

They seem to tank better than tanks (war/pally/sk) at lower levels until they can afford to buy equipment to get their AC up. Fire Pet AC still needs to be looked at.

And the DS? The highest level DS a druid can cast, 24, is about the equivalent of the level 20 fire pet.

A level 20 pet hits for about 23 damage max, I'd imagine that the damage it does just from attacks would be comparable to the damage from a ranger.

I used to remember pet heals drawing huge amounts of aggro, lots higher than normal heals would. Pet aggro is a little off I think.

Pets seem fine now except for the fire pet DS. I certainly don't remember them getting max-level DS at level 20. Other than that, mage pets were always really strong and they were always able to solo very efficiently with them. Seems like everything is in order except for the inexplicably powerful fire pet self-DS.

And there are plenty of low-levels. Plenty. Maybe not in Befallen and Kerra Isle, but the traditionally crowded zones are still crowded. I see no need whatsoever for a new server, and I doubt the administrators want the added expense and workload of running one anyway.

I played 5 different mages on live since 1999 and I can tell you that the mage pets were just as powerful on live... In fact, I remember them being slightly more powerful in some cases, but not super noticable.

As far as aggro: In groups the reason why pets don't draw aggro is because sometimes during SoV mage pets were drawing crazy aggro. I would send in my pet at 85% hps in Velks and it would still draw aggro and die quickly. Verant's solution? They made mobs ignore pets if a PC was in melee range (enless mob was rooted). It is like that today on p99. I don't know if this something that has been looked at, or if it is just a really low priority. I'm guessing it is something that they don't really care about since pets arent usually tanks in group situations. It also helps at lower levels when you need to take some dmg for your pet when it is low.

Mage pets are powerful because it needs to be compared to necros. Necros have more CC ability (which isnt saying much since mages have zero CC enless you count earth pet root a CC) and later on don't even need a pet
