Defiant gear would be a lot worse than fungis.
To put things into perspective, the last toon I PL'd on live had 255 to all stats and nearly 4k h/m/e with capped resists. Iirc that toon also had +5 hp regen and +6 mana regen with some mod2s and 30% haste. This was in the high 30s with just level appropriate defiant gear. For bards it also gives you instrument mods on visible plate. This includes a singing mod that can otherwise only be found on epic 1.0 on p99 - a game changer.
