Supposedly it was bugged in classic to have just the regen and not the mana drain component - Uthgaard fixed it shortly before Kunark.

Is this really solid proof that there was no mana drain component then? Should probably find more evidence.

It NEVER had regen (at least the spell "rage") in classic is the thing; I have no idea why the version on P99 had regen to start with (maybe that's the way it works on Live now?) I played a shaman from 1999-2001 (Vanilla-Velious). I quit EQ during Velious era. I remember using Rage to solo tough mobs/camps. If you were just root rotting mobs you didn't really need it because all it provided was melee type buffs and AC, but if you were planning to take some hits, it actually mattered.

This is 100% real and accurate description of Rage.

Also note the website: The Shaman's Crucible. The #1 Go to website back then for shaman.
