I never defended a person who gambled their life savings away. But you can't really call his family victims without completely destroying the meaning of the word "victim". If anyone is a victim simply because they weren't given as much by others as they could/should have been, then pretty much every single person is a victim. And a word that can apply to anyone has zero meaning. Too complex for you to understand? Just get all upset and spout off some more petty insults instead. It's the RnF way after all.
I completely disagree ofcourse. It's not just about who has and who doesn't have. In this instance, this man (or woman) has lied, defiled trust and possibly taken money from his partner, food out of the mouths of his children, threatened the security and well-being of his family due to (insert any number of vices here) To say that his family has not been victimized would be in error.

Is breaking trust really the threshold for victimhood to you people? Maybe I'm wrong here. Maybe you do all see yourselves as victims every time you have your trust broken. I prefer not to view myself as a victim just because someone lied or didn't give me every penny they possibly could have. Sounds like a really sad and depressing life. I mean, I'm sure playing the victim feels good because it absolves you of all responsibility for your situation, but jesus it must make you feel so worthless at the same time.

I fail to see how 'breaking trust' is a 'victimless crime'
