His point is really simple. It takes much more space to provide pasture for large meat-producing animals per time than it does to produce a calorie-equivalent amount of vegetarian food (corn, beans, etc.) per time. Using simple math, it follows that as more food-production land is used to raise meat-producing animals, the less total calories can be produced worldwide.

I personally don't find this argument especially convincing in this country however, since so many farmers are subsidized to not produce everything they possibly could. ..but his point stands.
