A different perspective on this topic is to think about basic questions that you yourself can’t answer with certainty. I say this for the person that links an article that has a bunch of mumbo jumbo that they don’t understand themselves and cite as proof. Here are a couple of things to think about if you actually have a curious mind and don’t already know everything about the whole universe already. I certainly don’t know the answers, but find it strange to not knowing answers to these basic questions in this day and age. Here are a couple basic questions that are simple in thought but quite hard to answer:

1) Most people would agree that a baby is created by a man and woman having sex. So probably most people reading this understand that is how they physically came into existence on this planet. Now answer me this. How did the very first human appear? Was the first human an adult? If so obviously it got created in a different method than sex since there were no other humans on the planet to have sex with. Another question is how did this first adult human skip the path of development the rest of us started as a baby? Now if the first human started out as a baby like the rest of us, how did a human baby that is basically worthless as far as survival goes grow up to become an adult? And where did its partner to have sex with and create more babies come from? Whatever is the truth appears to be above our understanding.

2) The human body is extremely complex and requires multiple organs to all be functioning at the same time for life to continue. Your heart needs to pump to circulate blood, your lungs need to take in needed air for the body, your brain processes what is going on inside and outside of the body, the liver processes toxins within the body, etc. Any of the major organs fails and the whole body dies. How could these organs be created over time and be wrapped neatly inside a body when they all had to be present at the same time for life to function? You also don’t find it a stretch that some gases, dirt, particles and such bounced around in space and somehow created all the organs in this neat and tidy package of the body that humans and animals live in? Or the space alien theory? Where did these space aliens come from and how did the first one of them get created and reproduce? You can’t answer these questions with certainty.

The idea of Jesus is no stranger an idea than the Big Band Theory or Space Aliens. You will put down the original poster because he tries to make an argument why he believes Jesus as God is truth (now maybe his argument was or was not very convincing to you), but how come no one mocked any of the other theories like space aliens? You won’t be able to explain any of these theories with certainty. So how with certainty can you say you know that it is not truth, if you don’t have truth to compare it to? To put it simply: If you can’t tell me how the first human defied the normal course of life, then how could you tell me how the first human did not come to being on the planet. If you were being honest you would say you don’t know, and that you don’t know any more than the people that you are calling stupid. If Jesus has been talked about for approximately 2000 years how do you dismiss it so easily? Herds of people will bash the thought of Jesus but not one has yet to answer either of the two questions above. The original poster is at least trying to understand what is going on in this confusing world and was courteous, what are you trying to do?

It is true that these questions are interesting, but not out of the realm of scientific understanding. People underestimate and misunderstand evolutionary processes, thinking that just because they cannot understand something, it inherently must be some sort of supernatural process at work. This is where the term 'intelligent design' comes into play. The inherent flaw with this reasoning is that for as many things in the natural world work well, there are just as many things that don't work well or are not as efficient as they could be. For example, it would be more efficient for us to be able to do photosynthesis. The problem lies in the fact that people who believe in some supernatural reasoning only look at what works well and never acknowledge what doesn't support their point (i.e., confirmation bias).

Christianity is no better or no worse than any other religion. They're all equally invalid. Through pure random chance, christianity became the religion of choice for many people in the western world, but just think about if emperor constantine did not come to rule Rome etc, we may see a very different world right now. That is, one without christianity. I've said it several times and will say it again, religion is man-made. The evidence is there. How many world religions are there? They are a product of culture & myth.

Here is the difference between formal vs. religious logic.

Scientific logic
Person A: I have a baseball in my hand
Person B: Where is the evidence?
Person B: Independently verifies that it is in fact the case

Religious logic

Person A: God exists
Person B: Where is the evidence?
Person A: I don't have evidence but you can't disprove it so it is must be right.

Now insert unicorn, dragons, ghouls etc and people can and do use the same type of logic to argue their case.

The only real area of contention that science has yet to prove is consciousness. But just because science hasn't explained it yet does NOT mean that god must exist.

Remember, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence but NOR is it evidence of presence.

In my opinion it seems pretty arrogant to go around telling people they're going to hell if they don't follow Jesus. There are many paths to God. I'd rather find my own way than have someone shove their way down my throat. As for the clergyman and other religious leader types: thanks, but no thanks. I don't need a middleman coming between me and my god. Mind your own business! Especially them Catholic priests. They just wanna hear all the juicy details about all the sinning you do.

The problem is that the Christian manual is quite explicit that not following Jesus leads to hell ("if you're not with me..."), and there are not many paths to God ("narrow is the way..."). Like it or not, arrogance is part of the system, unless you want to twist it, but then it's quite explicit about "twisting it," as well. Except, of course, everybody twists it, and I do mean everybody.

If there were no religions you wouldn't believe in god, yet you think religion is bullshit but you still believe in it (god)? We were all born atheists..

If i need to give a serious opinion on this, beleif in god and rejection of religions arent a contradiction to me. Although you have to define what kind of god you beleive in.

Someone had to be the first to think there was a god, that came before religions, its a logical inevitability.

Im an agnostic. You cant really know how the universe came into being, not for a long time probably. So im fine with who knows. I draw the line at religions because i think much of them are created by persons who use the fear of death in humans to manipulate them to do things that they want them to do.

At least thats how they are used mainly nowadays, especially in the united states. Maybe some of the original writers of the bible were sincere, but theyre long gone.

Look it up, all sorts of great insights on how religion is a tool used by males to keep females down.

Personally i beleive there are probably gods out there. Not god, but gods. Creatures out there in space that are to us what we are to ants. But i probably wont ever meet those creatures or any other weird space creatures before im dead.

And that sucks.

I'm guessing by Christian manual you're referring to the bible. No offense, but who actually wrote that? A bunch of misogynistic old farts. And which version do you adhere to? There is more than one version, right? That must be confusing.

And whoever wrote it got to pick and choose which gospels to include/exclude. Yep, seems legit to me.

If Jesus really is the son of god I imagine he would be upset about all the terrible things that have been done in his name. For example, burning people at the stake. Or conquering other peoples and forcing them to either convert or die. What's that about? Doesn't seem like the kind of behavior Jesus would approve of.
