Make sure you watch your mana bar to see when you get the med tick before canning.

Install a UI with numbers for hp / mana. It's easier to see the ticks then.

I agree with whoever said that it's a hell of a lot of work playing a shaman well, though. I know canni-dance is the most efficient way, but sometimes I just canni a few times then sit down for a rest [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
