The agreements your guilds came up with out of game have nothing to do with the content in game. My server for example it was all out racing for any mobs up once raid time began. Scout prior to raid - find targets, mobilize while assembling groups and engage while being raced or racing someone.

Personally I prefer racing guilds to content as it ads the complexity of logistics to the engagements but whatever. Beating Afterlife to NtoV or rushing to engage Emporer in SSRA with them breathing down our necks and pulling off a win by the skin of our teeth - these are the exhilirating memories that come from competition. Honestly if I wanted to stand in line to be handed something I would go to the deli counter instead of a game.
Well then we simply disagree with what is fun. If I wanted to compete against other players, I would join a PvP server.

Why play an MMO at all if you don't want to compete against others? Every single time you buy anything from a PC you're competing. When you got to a zone to xp you're competing.

I do enjoy having a large uninstanced outdoor world with people going places, fighting things, selling things, fishing, tradeskilling, and generally just feeling like I'm immersed in a world. Do I feel like I'm competing when derv 1 is camped, not really, I just go to derv 2. There is enough non raid content to keep me quite happy. However, there is a reason that instancing has been put into all modern games. The majority of people don't want to compete with no life assholes that want to cock block the content.

Again you feel the need to insult people who prefer a different gameplay than you. Wether you feel like it is competing you are still competing you simply have more of a supply than at the raid level.

EQ use to require you to meditate while staring at a book. The majority of people preferred a different gameplay than what Sony designed. Guess what, they changed it. There is nothing wrong with questioning the game, now that's classic. Sorry for the insults, if people enjoy cock blocking content over and over and over, then their happiness is at the expense of the majority. EQ will be a lonely place if the 90% left.
