Just an update -

Made some changes today. We'll see if they help, and if not we have one more change we're holding in reserve that should definitely stop it (The data center wants me to exhaust all other avenues before implementing it).

To answer questions -
We're way past the point of understanding the attack. We know exactly what type of attack it is and the possible solutions. Just working on getting things implemented.

I've already decided if I win the lotto I'd buy a rack of super servers with SAN and clustering and a 10 gig fiber link for P1999.

That would be nice! Maybe I'll get lucky and we'll decide to scrap one of our EMC arrays when it's out of maintenance in a couple years and it'll have shit for trade in value. :P
