Mages were pretty shitty on live. Pretty good if you duo though.
^^ This. Mages only became good when EMU's were introduced. Other than summons, they sucked on live. Pets were terrible and did awful damage. Pathing was also bad and caused more trains than anything.

Mages on EMU's are probably top 3 in classes due to pets being much better.

Gotta love those bolts with the z-axis forking them into twin torpedoes!

keep leveling your mage, grab some 50 ish bis gear and reroll to what you want if you don't feel the mage groove

or just go balls to the walls with a 2hander and some banded.

But. It doesnt hurt to have multiple characters at multiple levels.

As a mage your probably rich.

If we could double bolt I would mage it for sure just for fun. But we can't, as it stands if we use anything during bolt travel time (lol when they see it and run faster than it travels) it cancels the spell and still costs us mana. Levi at bottom of buff stack fading while 100 feet up in the air and bolt in travel? Fuck you.

I guess it really depends on how close resists get to live. If resists are fairly close to live, even highly skilled mages will have a tough time.

Mage pets here are actually worse than they were on live if you ignore the *bug* with pet spells landing. On live they would quad with no weapons, here if they are not wielding anything they only double. In either case the actual damage done per hit is identical. Low 50s per shot to a player. BO3 has the same haste as it always did. On live the 59 air pet with bo3 and velocity would absolutely wreck an int caster or rogue with only jboot speed.

Mages themselves are actually worse here as well because you can't cast multiple bolts. Char is a poor PvP spell compared to scars, but scars is basically useless because of the bolt bug. Pure ganking considered, the ability to use bolt travel time to get 2 spells landing at the same instant on an unaware player on live was pretty nice.

In open zones or zoneline fights they are pretty useful in a group and can probably hold their own solo if pillar is fixed. PvP inside, you can use 58 fire pet and have someone root it in a corner for you so it doesn't get feared. After mala, it will land spells.

Stick with your mage. They offer some real support, are an amazing group PvE class, and are #1 at farming both high pp items and vendor run pp farming. You can make 20k pp in no time as a mage and that is a nice start for gearing an alt later.
