the only winning i see out of trying this stuff is forcing you to reevaluate your comfortable view of the world around you if perhaps there are certain things lacking in the way your life should be led.
In other words, it can create an impressionable experience to positively change your life. Self-medicated psychiatric's. A lot of people don't try hallucinogenics with this in mind. Yeah there are hippies and shamans and shit, but their on the fringe and a lot of them dip too deeply from the well.
