I feel that the game would be better if the naming policy was enforced. I'm very surprised that people who make douche names want to play on P1999. I guess I was thinking this is a more mature crowd that loves old EQ. I figured all the tossers would be lvl 99999 on live.

...List of Names...

I understand this is a volunteer-run server and therefore they don't 'need' to do anything. But why have a policy if it is not enforced? It gives the impression that people can get away with things as long as they aren't noticed.... and of course we wouldn't want to encourage THAT sort of behavior [You must be logged in to view images. You stopped short of where you were suppose to then say "this breaks my immersion! Why doesn't everyone play the game how I expect them to!?"

Even on live there were characters with questionable, or at worse, offensive, names. Some got changed, some didn't. Some might even say that "dancing on the edge" is "classic."

Finally, Sony, by your own admission, is stricter on the naming policy, so instead of suggesting others go play there, how about you go play there. Then you can report names all day.

I say that MMOs should institute a (“select the genre”) name generator that generates a list of three names you can select from. No outside names will be accepted. That way their world consists of players named according to their conventions.

Think about it. We all get stuck with a name given to us by our parents…unless you change it later in life. Does this make you less likely to play the game of life? No, you continue on playing because, in the end, it is the game that matters. (As a side note, I am glad that RL society punishes people for ridiculous names. Could you imagine sitting next to a co-worker named “CreamInMyAss2766” or "Pedi-file"? Ha-ha.)

EQ does have a name generator in character creation (we're just not required to use it). Though I did just roll the name 'Gogagog' for an ogre warrior, which is pretty amazing.

That's an interesting offer, but I will have to decline.
