So, people do cheat at games.
We played spades regularly with neighbors. My partner and I were quite good, and to make things fair we split our team up and partnered with neighbors. My partner and his new partner were cheating, making hand signals. I caught on and kicked him in the balls from under the table. I believe your history lesson is encouraging complacency.
