Growing from seed is hit or miss, You can take 100 seeds get possibly 50 females and even if they are cheap to expensive seeds you will be lucky to get a couple females that are worth keeping. Getting a clone from a mother plant that someone has already put the work into of flowering out and you can see the end product/harvest results per plant is the way to go. Nowadays it is a lot easier to get clones to non-medical marijuana states if you have friends there.
I grew a strain of White Widow that I picked that had the best yield and finished product the first time around for about 2 years straight before switching to DNA genetics Chronic. Started with 60 seeds ended up with 3 females I liked, mothered 3 kept 2 in the end and to this day they are still producing clones. As far as 'purple' buds go, It doesn't always matter what strain or genetics the plant has. You can drop the temperature of the grow room and get some dark purple(almost blackish) looking buds once you hit the mid 60s or lower degrees. A lot of the famous strains like you mentioned, Grand daddy purple. Were in fact purple originally, But once you start breeding for seeds and selling them in mass quantity it starts to dilute them and the chance of getting it again hence why most of the GDP from seed afterwards never were purple. Out of all the various strains I have grown, Chemdawg, NL #4, Hashberry(Mandala), Green Crack, C13 and Jack herer are probably the best ones I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. I no longer grow any of them except for around 4-5 Green Crack/Chemdawg and Jack Herer for heady stash for friends and keep the rest of my crop to the Chronic strain that took a long time to perfect. Average just about 3 ounces per plant, Flower time 60 days upwards of 65(I let some flower longer, I do not cut down the entire crop at one time. Found this to easily add a few ounces overall to final yield) Mostly due to the fact that chopping down so many plants at once, Takes a long time to trim then dry then re-trim(my buds have to look good) Can only process so many plants with 1-2 people at a time so why not let some grow longer until they absolutely need to be cut? I run the usual setup still have not made the change to LEDs though mainly because what I have is working just fine for me and its rinse and repeat each time no trouble. Light movers, co2, stable temperatures. To each grower their own I suppose. | ||
