Sup Abacab! As stated earlier, the majority of the people in private channels are probably there because they choose to be. I know that for our guild, the channel is private and people join as a recommendation. I hope that the rest of the "public mumblers" in our channel will venture forth at times when they feel it is appropriate to do so, whether it is due to their own scheduling and wish to interact with others or when they are not needed for private discussions.
Last night Swishahouse actually contacted me to tell me all of his friends are hiding so I yelled at people to stop being social recluses... ironically, Swishahouse never said hello to me when I was saying HEY SWISHASWISH...heh.
I can understand your concern but the genuine need for private channels is that so people don't randomly pop in and start bugging people. It's a shame if no ops are available to boot them back out, so it makes much more sense to just keep it locked. Rogean was nice enough to setup a new server that can support a large number of people because he is cool like that and we are utilizing it. There are a lot of public channels and I know a few members were putzing around in them last night. Hopefully the dynamic of the new mumble server will maintain the same level of splendor as it did before <3
