As someone who played on red, the biggest thing you have to understand about is that the players there are hypercompetitive compared to blue (and I consider blue pretty fucking competitive). Guys like Eccezan or Visceral or Sentenza would fit right in, because probably 75% of the population or more is there to feel good about winning in EQ - not that there's anything wrong with that, but I personally prefer something even a little more friendly/casual even if I do play a lot.

And I think something like that is just intrinsic to a PVP server. By definition it pits players against each other; in principle a blue server could be very cooperative. There are all types of players on red, both assholes and nice guys, but the unifying trait is they are all there to kick ass. So there is a lot of trash talk and griefing and such. You have your crew and they have theirs and its serious fucking business.

Also, protip: you can avoid the griefers almost entirely by staying out of unrest. Of course, its more fun to team up against them. Once Mav, Jaice and I ran off Tulkas who had bragging for a few hours about his 'skills' in beating up noobs with an RFS/Fungi/CoF monk at L30. Guess I'm a little hypercompetitive too at times [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
