The Source is believed to be the mainframe computing center for the servers. In the Project 1999 Red pvp server, The Source is described also as a location where features not classic that are no longer needed to operate within the pvp server are obligated to enter, whereupon they will be absorbed into the Project 1999 Red mainframe.

Rogean, a human and The One true peter griffin, is initially misled, as part of the Prophecy dictates that he utilized the velious code to reach The Source as part of his role in ending the " was this change intended" War. However, Rogean never reached the Architect Sirken, a high-level GM that either represented The Source or, as part of his role in preserving the Project 1999 red server, served to help The One true peter griffin to actually access The Source.

Later, Rogean is once again redirected by The Oracle nilbog to go to the actual location of The Source in the server's City. He succeeds in reaching the highly-defended city and meets with what was presumably another effective representative of the Source, the Null. There, Rogean succeeds in brokering a truce with the red server population in exchange for ridding the project 1999 red server of a rogue program, tomato_king, who not only threatened the integrity of the project 1999 red server, but the world of norath itself.
