EQ is a game designed largely around pve. When you add pvp, it allows you to contest and fight for xp camps, item camps, and raid targets. The goal should be to do those things, and eventually have a force strong enough to compete over, and win the content the game has to offer.
Thats what happened. EQ pvp is about more than who is best at pvp; its about who can assemble and lead a guild. Its about recruiting what you need, respecting the playerbase and maintaining an image. The other guilds thought they could just throw a bunch of gankers under a tag and expect them to work well together. When it came down to brass tacks, they had no coordination, no class balance, no leadership, and therefore got no victory.
