Considering that I went through 4 stacks yesterday in CoM without ever casting a pet, I'm fairly certain that it does consume a Chip right now [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

But yea, casterrealm is the only ressource that lists it as having a reagent, and like you said, has conflicting posts on it.
