Just play it safe and tip anyone you ask for anything if they aren't in your group, at least once you're established money wise. Doesn't even have to be a lot, just shows good will. Nothing pisses me off more than being asked for haste or something 3 times by someone wearing well over 100k worth of gear, that couldn't even give me 15p or something. That's good for an /ignore usually.

Believe me, we can tell who can afford it and who can't. If you stop me and you're level 22 wearing low level stuff, I don't expect a tip and will probably just hit cancel if you even try to tip me. If you're lev 57 and ask for clarity while wearing a planar suit and hiero cloak in sebilis, you should be tipping.

Ditto for any other class you're dealing with. When I leave the bank I always keep about 150p on me just so I have money to give. I'm not saying I tip 150p for everything but just keep that bit of cash on you for high levels, then if it turns out you don't hit the bank for days you have money for several small tips if you need to ask outside the group for random stuff.

Certainly could do worse than to carry a stack of peridots on you also. Give your cleric a few...maybe more than a few depending on situation. If everyone did, it wouldn't really cost them anything and you'd have your symbols every time. Hell if you want to tip one for a ress you could tip them with some peridots, they'll use em. As an enchanter I go through plenty of peridots also runing myself. Occasionally people tip me with a few peridots which I like.

For the outdoor stuff. It isn't going to kill you to at least pay 50p for a port. Are you an established player and using /ooc to get ports so much that this is a problem? If so, you're doing it wrong. If you want to tip more (or are getting a skyfire/EJ port) then by all means, tip more. If you're newer and really can't afford it, just say so.
