Back when those people had their plat stripped server pop was like 600+ at peak times. The population has diminished a lot because of holiday/game season and the red server. I also suspect the amount of time Kunark has been out has had an impact. When Kunark launched the numbers were more than double what they are these nights.
The stratification you are seeing is more a result of longer times between content and exetensive knowledge of the game already available. There are a bunch of people who have been generating tons of plat a long time mixed with some new people. If anything the plat removed helped lower inflation.
