At no level before 24 (with the exception of the beastly level 1 pet) does your pet have even close to the HP of an equivalent mob. Nor does it hit nearly as hard. 1 on 1, your pet will get slaughtered every time unless it's lucky. It also won't generate enough aggro to keep a mob off you because your main sources of damage (Boil Blood line, Leach line, Darkness line, and lifetap DDs) all are innately high-aggro spells. Mend bones won't be enough to make up the difference, and anyway it's inefficient. The pet doesn't have the HP to go toe-to-toe until about 44, but it starts hitting hard enough to keep aggro when you've got the 39 buff and 2 weapons on it.

So obviously you have to keep the mob from hitting your pet while allowing your pet to stay in melee range. You can use your high-aggro spells to aggro kite, or you can fear-kite. |

Thats some good insight. i'm used to my pet tanking for me, the idea of kiting for my pet was new, and i didn't care much for it. i spent enough time kiting my own pet when it broke and wanted my blood

guess its just a new play style i wasn't used to and found i didn't like. the utility of a necro is what first turned me on to it.
