I don't understand why this concept is so hard to grasp.

If OP didn't want someone helping the group, or sharing in the loot, or whatever, he should have left. Which he did.

All this bullshit posturing about who has right to what, how it's in his best interest to suck it up, how he will never see VP or need that key piece is irrelevant.

As he said, the group did not NEED the additional help outside of group. I personally don't always want help or PL or whatever either, regardless of whether or not there is a loot exchange requirement. Hell I levelled my ranger to 51 without a single rez, even though I was offered them every single time I died, just because. Same for my necro. Hell my first 50 was a cleric and I still never had anyone log her in to rez my alts.

The point being whether or not the situation would have been in the best interest of the OP is completely subjective and no matter how much shit you talk to him that fact doesn't change.

The OP is NOT bitching about possibly losing the quest piece. He is bitching about being bullied into accepting a situation that someone else determined was in his best interest without taking how he felt about it into consideration. That's it. The quest piece or how much extra exp was to be made out of group is irrelevant.

Is he being a bitch over something trivial? Yes.

Does 50 people talking about how good and kind and benevolent the TMO members in question are, and how much better the OPs experience would have been if he had just shut his mouth and conformed, and how he is stupid for not realizing this somehow make the TMO people in the right? No.
