Upon achieving level 45, you've only accumulated 19% of the xp necessary to reach level 60. Even with the xp penalty, getting the first fifth of your char back isn't really that difficult, especially with a gear and plat jumpstart.

You do realize you get more exp per kill the higher the level of the mob you're killing is, right?
