Agree on many points. A harsher sentence typically is not going to on its own create deterrence because criminals IMO (as someone that watches a lot of tru crime) are typically very stupid people who tend to assume they won’t get caught, no matter how harsh the sentence However Longer sentences still serve to physically protect the public via quarantining the threat away for longer Of course we all hope for rehabilitation, but the rates of rehabilitation for sex offenders and pedo’s are some of the record lowest of any disorder, from I’ve heard. Of course the argument can be made that the rates are so low because of the methods and societies perception of the perpetrator. But it’s a chicken or the egg argument, is the perception based on the fact a lot of lay people do realize the rates of rehabilitation for this disorder are low, and have thus become disenfranchised with the idea of continuing to spend resources trying /shrug | ||
