Well true, but it's the least worst thing to learn, tradeoffs and all that. A gun or knife beats bjj too, but your odds still go up even in that scenario.

Oh yea for sure. Now more than ever I personally think anyone who is physically capable and willing to try to protect vulnerable people (like kids, women, elderly) in public should learn some basic BJJ

I just saw a recent video of some crazy homeless dude in NY who tried to abduct this 6yr old kid completely at random, and when his parents saw and said something he body slammed the kid he was carrying away to the ground

The dad and other people were able to catch up to the guy and pin him down for police to come. And that’s often what the scenario seems to be. Generally the people who are wigging out in public are often homeless, frail, not very healthy to where if you punch them too hard they might straight out die and then you’ll be defending yourself in court racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees over it

Whereas BJJ allows someone to “stop” a problem person usually without the person taking too much damage. And especially also to hold them in place until police get there. I’ve seen and I’m sure you’ve seen a few vids of a Good Samaritan who knows BJJ holding someone in a hold waiting for pd in just that scenario

The caveat is that a person can still die from a hold like a guillotine a la that Daniel Penny case. So one would have to understand not to cut off blood flow to the brain for too long when employing a hold
