Default Oct 1999 - Martar IceBear and Redwind

A couple of changes occurred in Everfrost with the release of the Temple of Solusek Ro.

Well, went zipping around the wide great plains of everfrost today, and
there have been 2 rather major new additions.

1) Everfrost, once a hill-giant-free-zone, has now been afflicted with
"Martar Icebear", a red-to-a-30th roamer who is aggressive to all players.
And being humanoid, is ignored by halas guards. I was not able to track
down our good friend Karg Icebear to ask about his wayward clansman, but I
guess there is a quest in there somewhere...still, everfrost is an
exceptional zone, partly because it does not suffer from those horrid
embarrassments to good area design, the hill giants and griffXXXs...now it
has one. Harder to spot, too, since he doesn't fly or stand 30 feet tall,
you have to be right on top of him to see him, and by then it is FAR too
late.

2) One of the most popular resting spots out in the tundra has been taken
over by orcs. On the northern side, near the entrance to permafrost, there
is an enourmous statue of a hill giant, and next to that, a large
temple/pavillion building. I always loved this building when I was hunting
orc mountaineers/shamans and ice boned skeletons, because it was a
landmark, and a safe place to rest because it was out of the path of all
the mobs.

Well, the "icy orcs" have come along and changed THAT [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
There are 5 of them in total, 4 icy orcs, who ring in at around level 27,
and are casters (probably shamans), and the 5th is a named orc at around
28-29 called Redwind. Identical to regular snow orcs, except maybe being a
little bigger (I didn't go in for a very close look, they are all very
deeply red to me). No visible weapons, and they just sit there in the
pattern of a 5 on a six-sided die casting spells on one another.

Again, probably some quest is related to these, but they were being very
closed mouthed on the subject, and I didn't feel like intruding on their
vacation time/

There is a new spawn in everfrost called Martar Icebear. I think he now
carries it. He is evil too so all you barbarians out on the tundra look
out.

Currently, the kilt Martar drops is flagged for the Temple era, but it seems he should be flagged as well.

EQAtlas notes the addition; see Notable NPCs: Nov 1999 vs Mar 2000

Redwind and Icy orcs

EQAtlas also notes the recent addition of the orcs (from the Nov 1999 link above):
Quote:
There is now a band of icy orcs that have taken up residence in the temple by the river and the ice giant statue. These creatures are approximately lvl 25, and have as their leader and Shadow Knight named Redwind, who is closer to 28th level or so.
Redwind gains a pet in Feb 2001:

Well after the lastest Patch Ol Redwind has a pet! He is a wimpy pet but can cause problems if you mezz all the other orcs and pull Rewind alone.

Since when does Redwind have a pet? I went back to pay him a visit, to help out a friend, after having not hunted him in about 8 lvl's and he has a pet now?!! Not that it was a problem ..lol but was just wondering if it was something he did special for me or a freak occurance...

The patch in question seems to be from Feb 21, 2001. This patch made a number of adjustments to spells, including SK spells. Mentioning it here for reference in case other SK NPCs were similarly impacted by the update.

On P99:

The initial quote above describes the pavilion prior to Redwind's arrival as a "safe place to rest because it was out of the path of all the mobs." Depending on how much stock is placed in that description, some adjustments may be necessary.

I watched the pavilion for about 15 minutes on P99 Green and saw 2 orcs path through the middle of the pavilion, 1 "a snow orc shaman" and 1 "a snow orc trooper."
