I logged in to EQ today. Was in S Ro as I had been drop transferring deluxe tool boxes to a troll alt last session.

It happened to be 9pm, I saw a sand giant up so engaged it, dismissing it as that round's spawn from the AC spot.

To my surprise, I saw a second giant fighting the dark elf merchant - I ran over to see it was an ancient cyclops - and it was losing it's battle.

Quickly I took aggro on the merchant, snaring her and the sand giant I had previously aggroed.

I then ran the AC toward the swamp as I'd already removed my alt from the desert.

Being careful to ensure I did more damage to AC than the merchant had, I killed it and logged out. I already have a spare ring on my wizard.

Quickly as I could, I logged in my troll and ran it to S Ro straight from guk warden.

Sadly, I got the corpse in sight and saw it had 3 seconds remaining: I didn't manage to loot the ring before the corpse rotted.

Anyway, the point is, if you are punctual to be in S Ro it is possible to find uncontested AC some times, just be careful to ensure it doesn't decide to suicide on the merchants before you engage it. And if your character already has boots / ring it is good to have an alt parked in place - you may not be able to get to the corpse in time if you have to cross several zones.
