Just because someone has played class X a lot doesn't mean they know how to play class Y. I now show you the 101 power leveled morons with uber mains and 0 melee skill...
As for 'the legal implications' everyone wants to quote. Is there a documented case in the world where legal action has been taken against a TOS/EULA/Copyright breaking emulator server, where said operator was successfully sued for the actions of their clients in regards to RMT? I cannot find anything...
Also, who cares if someone buys or sells stuff? You work, you watch the kid, you mow the lawn, you are busy 80-100 hours a week doing other stuff. If one decided to spend $100 on 50K or whatever, isn't that really their choice? Sure, it may be especially bannable on p99 since the devs really don't have anything better to do than worry about TMO and TR fighting over a dervish spawn...but on WoW or EQ2 or RIFT? The buyer never gets noticed. Buying is ignored, it is the selling that tends to be bannable...
Anyway, all those gold sellers on all those sites are the same people you see listing items on the ECT Threads. If you don't think all those uber guilds farming CoF or FT's aren't selling those in ECTunnel to maintain their RL lifestyles, you are mistaken. I know of two Live guilds where the bankers sold millions weekly, when 1 million went for $1000 on live...serious cash flow. Or people here using your 60 Druid to 'PL' a 'Friend' up to 50+ and selling for 60K in a thread? What you gonna do with that money with no account? Oh, you have two IP's! Three IP's? (It's only $20 a month for 5 IP's from Comcast) Ya, that's not a gold seller...or against the rules...oh, it is.
So, it's the same here, and denying that reality just makes you all look silly.
