Real life is even worse. That house my Dad bought right out of college for engineering is now $800,000. You would need 3 or 4 times a staring engineers pay to buy that today.
When he was in college a company paid him money to agree to accept a job after graduation.

My dad got his job with a high school diploma. While he was still working there, if I were to apply to the same company for the same job, they wanted a high specialized degree in radar technology, as well as military service because you were required to have a security clearance. Ironically the same job in 2022 pays less than it did in the 1990s despite the fact that it's much harder to get the same job. It kind of blows my mind.
