Shit parents doesn't condone or justify killing innocent ppl. I have a hunch that the manchild who still technically should have been a man was a twit and likely instigated some bullying upon himself and also couldn't cope. So in essence there was likely more than one wrong here. It probably just wasn't a unilateral hate crime. Tho technically it was a bias motivated crime even if shame got involved.
