I paid taxes on every screw I sold for $15, so only really made a profit of $6 per screw, which was a lot. I've paid more taxes than I can even really deal with. I felt really and honestly raped when I broke into the higher bracket for a few years.

China, India, Taiwan, still have industry that allows people to freely sell their labor for an agreed upon price. There is no government oversight. You can just go somewhere and work, there is no background check, tax information, 401K you just work.

Its impossible to beat that efficiency. They also work very hard. I was invited to visit the factory and it was a real blast. They just had a big pit in the back for all the industrial waste. Lots of people and their families lived on site and would burn plastic to keep warm. I kept giving people $1 bills as souvenirs and they were so amazingly excited.

It is really the closest feeling I could imagine of being a celebrity, you are there, just being some random guy, and everyone is holding doors, opening doors, shutting doors for you. Driving you around. Just because you bought some screws.
