Those pipelines are hard to empty and also hard to start and restart. I doubt it would be an easy process to “plug it up” or do something more permanent. It’s very serious. Serious like there’s no way it’s fixed within a few months
But I don’t know exactly how those pipelines work. Generally, undersea methane pipelines are hard as fuck to fix even when flow is interrupted. But that was never my expertise in engineering

Why would Russia remove their bargaining chip though?
Now Europe definitely won't let up in Ukraine.
Russia would be in a much better place with the pipe in place. With the ability to turn gas on when EU agrees to back down.
Then again, Russia could have done it to make it look like the US did it.
There's also that video of Biden saying they would shut it down.
