Truck driver is a job threatened by automation, just on a slower timeline. They should learn a tradeskill that requires a diagnostic to repair something, like plumbing, AC/heat repair, electrician, etc. It will be really hard if not impossible to automate a visual diagnostic on some apparatus, esp since it requires using hands and moving stuff around

Should that new tradeskill these truckers hypothetically learn be subsidized in any way by taxpayers? Their employers who automate their jobs out of existence if the robots ever actually start driving those trucks safely?
I ask because mass retraining programs, at least in America, don't exactly have stellar results on the whole. Maybe the Canadians have done better in the past, idk.
