Project 1999 is more concerned with building classic everquest the way they want it to be. Good for them, its a fun server.
If you're looking for the closest "classic" experience alive in 2021, thats TAKP.
OP should be satisfied, XP is buffed so you will out-level your channeling ability so fast that you will have to use a Dev-Built casting script to level casting skills.
But if you just keep playing, you'll find yourself dreadfully unable to channel anything, that is, if you can get past your fizzles before you are OOM, but thats unlikely, as you'll be dead long before you are OOM, because your defense skill is still 12. Skills are rough on TAKP.
not gonna lie, i spent years in the "P99 is all" camp. I had a couple toons on takp for fun bc friends did. Only recently did i really give it a "new start" chance. I'm glad i did. Very rough mechanically, but gear is cheap. like, farming fine steel for RBB cheap. crystal chitin gear is like 50p. I paid 3k for a runed bolster belt. The open wanton toxicity found on P99 is non-existant. I suspect TAKP devs have a spring loaded ban hammer. Obnoxious people in /1 alliance chat have a tendency to "quit".
Try TAKP.
One time i was like lvl 15 with cloth, I /wtb banded armor, and a few people showed up and just loaded the trade window, some items better than SS gear, i could have politely refused, but I'm not looking for that "fresh start PVE experience."
That's their community.
Nobody is gonna make you 3 box, Theres alot of people who just play 1 account, one toon.
TL;DR, there are other options, perspectives to take when looking for your EverQuest experience.
EQ is the only "Always" game for me, and these days there are alot of ways to play it.
